Isolated Power Outages
Did the power go out in only your room or apartment? Sometimes residents will lose power in their rooms if too much electrical power is requested at once on a single circuit. This can cause a breaker to trip, which requires one of our technicians to reset it at the electrical panel. Please submit a Fix It! request if you need assistance.
Energy-Saving Outlets
To help save energy, some residence halls have phantom load switches installed. The black switch in your room is tied to the black outlets in the room. When the switch is off, the black outlet and the equipment plugged into it are also off. A separate (regular) outlet is reserved for things you do not want to switch off, like the micro-fridge.
