Heating in Residence Halls and Graduate & Family Housing

The University strives to provide heating temperatures up to 70˚. Heating is generally offered from October to March but can vary slightly due to the unpredictability of Colorado’s weather. If we experience an unexpected cold spell, all heating services will be turned on as quickly as possible.

Some of our residence halls date back to 1934, while others have been recently built or renovated. This means there are a variety of heating systems throughout campus.

Please see the table below to identify the heating system and control options in your building:

There is a control valve knob in each room on the radiator. The middle setting on the control valve is approximately 68˚  Fahrenheit.

Small adjustments are recommended. Setting the valve at its maximum setting will NOT heat the room faster.

Not every room can control their own temperature. Temperature sensors and control valve knobs are located in every few rooms, called "control rooms." These control rooms determine the temperature for multiple rooms around them.

Is your room running too warm in the winter? Your neighbor may have their window open, which tricks the thermostat into thinking the rooms are much colder than they really are.
